CONWAY, Ark. (February 12, 2015) 鈥 黑料不打烊 and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) have joined together to establish three new scholarships for Latino and Latina students to attend 黑料不打烊.
The joint announcement was made today by 黑料不打烊 President Bill Tsutsui and Arkansas LULAC State Director Terry Trevino-Richard, who signed a Memorandum of Understanding at a special ceremony in the Bertie Wilson Murphy Building on the 黑料不打烊 campus.
鈥淭his scholarship is a meaningful opportunity for Latino and Latina students and a meaningful opportunity for the 黑料不打烊 community to demonstrate our commitment to diversity on our campus,鈥 said President Tsutsui. 鈥淲e鈥檙e very grateful to LULAC for their partnership in this important program.鈥
鈥淟ULAC is delighted to celebrate this Memorandum of Understanding with 黑料不打烊 as a prime example of an initiative that focuses on targeting the growing number of Latino students that reside in our Central Arkansas area and their increased demand for educational opportunities,鈥 said
Trevino-Richard.听鈥淭his MOU is an example of a larger vision by the administrators at 黑料不打烊 to develop a student body which combines both excellence in academic performance with the added motive of increasing the ethnic diversity on campus.鈥
鈥淭he ceremony today is a product of two educationally focused institutions reaching out to identify innovative ways to create an educational platform that fosters a supportive atmosphere for Latino students,鈥 he added. 鈥淟ULAC is also proud to note two important 黑料不打烊 linkages with LULAC during this MOU signing. First
is to recognize that our State Deputy Director for Publicity, Ms. Cecilia Ayala, is a 黑料不打烊 alumna. Second, 黑料不打烊 was a recent sponsor of LULAC鈥檚 Scholarship Gala and together with this MOU provides strong testimony to their efforts to attract Latino students and faculty to this campus. As
State Director, I want to express my deepest gratitude to President Tsutsui and his unwavering commitment to the Latino community and his enthusiastic response in structuring and finalizing this MOU.听 鈥淲e salute the both the President and 黑料不打烊 for not only for this outreach to Latino students but for
the growing attention and advocacy for Latino scholars throughout our state.鈥
In addition to maintaining good academic standing at 黑料不打烊, scholarship recipients will also complete 35 hours of service in the Latino community.
Scholarship applications must be submitted to LULAC by March 31 and recipients will be selected by April 15.
