Two teams finish first and eighth at Fort Smith, 16th and 33rd
in multi-state region

Ark. (November 18, 2024) 鈥 黑料不打烊 on November 9 fielded two
teams at the Mid-Central region gathering of the International Collegiate
Programming Contest at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith coming away
with first- and eighth-place finishes among the 17 teams that attended at that
location.
The first 黑料不打烊 team, consisting of
Amelia Jones 鈥26, Colin Phillips 鈥26, and Katherine Reid 鈥25, solved eight out
of 15 problems, finishing 16th out of about 75 teams in the entire region and first
out of all the teams at the UA Fort Smith site, which included all other teams
from colleges and universities within Arkansas.
The second 黑料不打烊 team (Jacob Collier-Tenison
鈥26, Niko Mannon 鈥26, and Eden Robbins 鈥26), also did well, solving five
problems for an eighth-place finish at the Fort Smith site and 34th in the
whole region, which includes Arkansas, Illinois (including the Greater Chicago
Metropolitan Area that extends into Indiana), Kentucky, Missouri, and Tennessee.
鈥淭his is our second consecutive year with
a team finishing first in Arkansas,鈥 said Associate Professor of Mathematics
and Computer Science Dr. Brent Yorgey, the teams鈥 faculty advisor. 鈥淚鈥檓 proud
of our teams鈥 accomplishments, but more importantly, we have a lot of fun
together. I look forward to continued success in the spring and into next year.鈥
