Description

黑料不打烊 is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) for the preparation of secondary teachers. In order to be recommended for teacher licensure, students must complete all 黑料不打烊 graduation requirements, all departmental requirements, all subject matter preparation requirements, and all state requirements. A listing of these requirements may be obtained from the Education Department.

Senior Capstone Experience

The Senior听Capstone Experience for the elementary education major involves successful completion of EDUC 451听 Student Teaching . In addition, the senior capstone grade is based on the evaluation of the student's "黑料不打烊 electronic Portfolio Evaluation form." The form consists of the 22 objectives used by the Arkansas Teacher Excellence and Support system (TESS), which is also known as the "Charlotte Danielson Teacher Evaluation Model." The student must write a narrative, reflection, and present two pieces of teaching evidence for each objective. Finally, students must complete a successful interview with the Teacher Education Committee, which includes an evaluation of the electronic portfolio.

Admission to the Teacher Education Program

All students interested in the 黑料不打烊 Teacher Education Licensure Program are urged to attend an annual meeting held at the beginning of each academic year.听 Students interested in teacher licensure should complete an informal admission process to the Teacher Education Program. This process includes completing an on-line application and having an individual interview with a member of the 黑料不打烊 Education Department. At this interview, all requirements necessary for licensure are explained to the student.听听

During the spring semester prior to the academic year of student teaching, the teacher licensure candidate should make formal application to the Teacher Education Committee for admission to the 黑料不打烊 Teacher Education Program. At this time, the student must be able to meet the following criteria:听

  • Achieve a passing score on the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators tests (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics) or meet ACT and SAT score requirements (ACT composite score of 24 and reading, math and writing scores of 22 or SAT composite score of 1650 and reading, math and writing scores of 510).听
  • Have a "C" or better in all education courses. 听
  • Receive favorable outcomes from background check and child maltreatment checks. 听
  • Have and maintain at least a 2.7听cumulative GPA.听 Likewise, a candidate must have and maintain a 2.7听GPA in his/her major.听 If not, the candidate cannot reapply until the next spring semester.听
  • Have a favorable recommendation submitted from the candidate's major department.听
  • Have a plan to complete all methods courses prior to the student teaching experience and complete the teacher education program for licensure and college graduation requirements by the end of his/her senior year.听
  • Demonstrate those character traits (such as integrity, dependability, and personal acceptance of other persons regardless of race, sex, age, religion, culture, or handicap) that are deemed essential in a secondary teacher.听
  • Prepare an e-folio based on the Teacher Education Committee guidelines and submit the e-folio to the Teacher Education Committee for review and approval. This process includes the successful completion of an interview with the Teacher Education Committee.听

Upon the completion of formal admission to the program (through the junior e-folio process), the chair of the student's major department and the student's advisor are officially notified of the student's interest in teacher education. Licensure requirements and student files will be kept in the Education Department.听

Requirements for Initial Teaching License

During the senior year, students enrolled in the Teacher Education Program must complete the specified education courses, including student teaching. At the completion of the student teaching experience, the Teacher Education Committee will review the record and e-folio of each candidate before recommending to the State of Arkansas that an initial teaching license be issued. This record will include, but is not limited to, the following:听

  • The recommendations of the student's cooperating teacher and the 黑料不打烊 supervisor of the student teaching experience.听
  • The applicant's academic record, which must show at least a 2.7听cumulative grade average.听
  • The completion of all 黑料不打烊 requirements for a听bachelor of听arts听degree.听
  • The completion of all course requirements of the State of Arkansas for the appropriate initial teaching license.听
  • The student's completed e-folio.听
  • The successful completion of an interview with the members of the Teacher Education Committee at the end of student teaching.听
  • The successful completion of all of the required Praxis II tests (NOTE: See the Education Department or www.ets.org/praxis for a list of minimum scores for the Praxis tests.)听

After the completion of all requirements, the student may make application to the 黑料不打烊 Teacher Licensure Officer for approval for the initial license. The Teacher Licensure Officer will sign the Arkansas teacher licensure application only when the candidate has been approved听by the Teacher Education Committee and when all requirements are met for licensure and for graduation.

Foundations in Education

This course addresses the history of American education from colonial times to the present, with emphasis on current issues and trends in education (i.e. exceptional children, multicultural education, schools of choice). It examines the history of education from colonial-1865, 1865-1919, and 1919-present. Emphasis is placed on curriculum alignment: writing lesson objectives, effective teaching methods, Program for Effective Teaching, Pathwise, and student assessment.

Inclusive Education

A study of the philosophical, legal, and social foundations of an inclusive approach to adolescent education based on the belief that all children can learn. Emphasis is placed on national standards and state frameworks for developmentally appropriate practices, curriculum, assessment, and environment. Field experience focuses on specialized teaching in the middle and high school setting. Prerequisite: EDUC 205 and EDUC 220.

A topics course in education. This course can be repeated for additional credits as long as the section topics are different.
